I have volunteered in many areas since the age of 14. I am a retired pediatric nurse and worked for 35 years. I was very proud to help save the life of a young boy. My greatest joy is my family including 9 grandchildren.

I have worked in emergency medicine for 21 years, and I love what I do. I've also held fundraisers, organized care packages to be given to those in need, and in general love to make people laugh...even if it's only at myself, LOL. I am also part of an amazing organization of women who make up the Atomic Roller Girls derby league. We have done and still do fundraising projects for local needs and groups. We work hard, we play hard and we love to be a part of this community! Come check us out and show your support, we would love to see you!
Why are you participating?:

I'm participating because it's something novel....and noteworthy in its originality. I enjoy being a part of something that makes people think! I have so many motivating people around me who support, love and inspire me to do my best every day.

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." My parents gave me a key chain with this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt on it in second grade, and they have been mine to live by since. Thinking and living outside of the box to try and be me while helping others is how I achieve my dream of being a woman for and with others. In the summer of 2011, I had to the chance to go to Israel and Palestine (West Bank). As I walked through the narrow, rubble covered streets of a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank, I was suddenly surrounded by the most happy, vibrant, and curious little kids who all wanted to see me, and ended up sitting on the ground playing and talking until it was time to leave. I realized I was, and am, living my dream in little ways.

Every year I volunteer at The Walk for the Homeless. Rain or shine, I am there. Directing walkers, posting signs or helping pass out food. We raised thousands of dollars a year for the cause.
Why are you participating?:

I have always liked to help the less fortunate, it feels really good to be part of something that makes a difference in someone's life.

Tell Us Your Good Deed:
Three years ago, I met a second year student from North High School at a Sister-to-Sister Conference. I was listening to a group of girls describe issues that they were struggling with. Afterwards, a 15 year old girl approached me to state that she was having a difficult time in her math class and was concerned about passing the mathematics portion of the MCAS that following spring. It was a serendipitous moment. I saw a spark in this young woman and knew she would be successful. We met weekly for 7 months, and she not only passed the MCAS, but got As and Bs in her math class. I continue to meet monthly with this remarkable young woman, who has faced many personal hardships. Being her mentor has enriched my life in many ways.

I volunteer my time to help out organizations I believe in (like the No Evil Project). I also never show up at parties empty-handed.
Why are you participating?:

Our society has become so polarizing. Everyone is afraid to talk about our differences because we are conditioned to believe that they are what defines us. In truth, when we begin to talk honestly about our perspective, we often see that our similarities are greater than our differences.

I recently took the day off work and spent the time with my nephew. We played with Legos all day and built a couple of kits that I had from when I was his age.
