Breathe No Evil Salem

A COVID-19 Community Art Project in Salem, MA

Breathe No Evil is a COVID-19 themed program of the No Evil Project, a nonprofit named after The Three Wise Monkeys: See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and Speak No Evil, that uses art and humor to challenge stereotypes and help people find commonality despite their differences. Since we can't have photo shoots in person for a while, we've created an activity you can do from home!

Everyone is being affected by the coronavirus and everyone can help in the fight. Face coverings slow the spread of COVID-19 but for many they're unusual to see or wear, and for some they can perpetuate stereotypes. Let's show that face coverings shouldn't be feared, but represent a wide variety of people coming together for the common good, standing strong, and protecting each other with a simple act even if it's uncomfortable.

As part of the Salem Together Campaign and Art Spring we're launching Breath No Evil Salem! Everyone is encouraged to participate and your photos will appear in the Salem exhibit online. Have you and your family represent the good things people are doing in Salem!

How to Participate:

  • Take a picture of yourself wearing a face mask or face covering: It's like our normal Speak No Evil pose, but without touching your face. It can be a mask you've bought or made, plain or bedazzled. Get as creative as you'd like.
  • Pick three words that describe yourself: Show everyone is in this together no matter what your labels are.
  • Share one good thing you've done: Whether you're on the front lines helping people, surprising your neighbors with a roll of toilet paper, or just staying home and binge watching for the common good.

We're just starting up but let's see what we can do!
